Sugar Hill, GA, Nov. 29, 2022 – After breaking ground on Nov. 29, The City of Sugar Hill and Reeves Young, the city’s contractor for phase 1, will begin construction on Sugar Hill’s newest asset, Ridge Lake Park. Mayor Brandon Hembree, City Council, representatives from Reeves Young, and city staff were in attendance at the groundbreaking for this future park, located at 5494 Cumming Highway between the Arbor Clos neighborhood and Sugar Ridge Drive.
The 22-acre property was purchased by the city several years ago with the intention to retain greenspace along the busy Highway 20 corridor. This investment has turned a potential commercial development site into a beautiful outdoor recreation amenity the entire community can enjoy for generations to come.
“Investing in greenspaces like Ridge Lake Park and the Sugar Hill Greenway is a priority of our city council and staff,” said Councilmember Jenn Thatcher. “The park will sit between the Chattahoochee River and Downtown Sugar Hill and is part of our continued effort to preserve the Chattahoochee River Corridor.”
Once both phases are completed, Ridge Lake Park will be a 22-acre passive recreation park and will feature a playground area, dog park, walking trails, fishing pier and dock, disc golf, and a rehabilitated pond dam. Park construction will be broken into two phases. Construction activities will include:
Phase 1: Site development, landscape screening, parking, pond/dam reconstruction, restroom/storage building, picnic pavilion, and a dog park. This phase will begin immediately and is set to complete during the second quarter of 2023.
Phase 2: Installation of a dock, gazebo, walking trails, and disc golf. This phase is programmed in the city’s Capital Improvement Budget.
