Sugar Hill Historic Preservation Society Meeting

Members in Attendance: Haley Tolbert, Alynne Grace, Karen Harrison, Rachel Schmalz, Joann Burel, Chris Walker

- Downtown Mural RFP
- In conjunction w/ DDA & arts commission. POC will be Alynne
- 1,200 sf on side of the suite spot
- Call open until June 27, committee review, selection submitted to DDA, then on to City Council
- Possible unveiling ceremony TBD
- DDA budget for remodel may be used. Potential grants applied for. Estimated cost is $15,000 – $20,000
- RFP is in final review stage. Nicole will send to Alynne & society for approval
- Need rep from the society to participate on the selection committee
- Proposed meeting dates for selection committee are: June 29, June 30, July 5
- Erin & Karen would like to serve on the selection committee – Motion approved
- Benson & Kile Family Cemetery Clean up
- $100 donation from Meredith @ “Find a Grave” – Can we accept?
- Need to work with Eagle Scouts – Brandon to contact & find out date
- DAR/SAR Ceremony – Just need to send them date
- June 13 City Council Meeting
- Items to present – volunteer hours, Sugar Rush 2015, gold mine visit, cemetery clean up, visit to Buford museum, Charter day 2016, training in Athens, update to community room
- Need to determine where we are headed
- Need to finalize name change for the community room – a resolution needs to be made to the city. “Sugar Hill History Center”
- Wine & Shine
- In conjunction with Sugar Rush on October 15
- We want to help and would like to talk further about our involvement
- Idea of having a booth to take oral histories
- Society would like to purchase a tablet to use for recording oral histories and scanning documents – estimated cost $3,000
