Project Updates, Public Works|

E Center.  Red Clay (RCI) is preparing to resubmit for a permit for their office buildout in spaces 209 and 211.  Construction on the RCI space is expected to begin later this month.  New South’s sub-contractor has been onsite several times in February to continue reworking the waterproofing on the lower pools.  The remaining scope includes installing the finish coat, refilling the system, recalibrating the controls and then restart. A new epoxy floor coating has been approved for use in the common areas and is expected to be installed over several weekends this month.

Sidewalks on Whitehead and Suwanee Dam Roads.   Inclement weather has hampered construction activity on this project and work continues during brief p3eriods of dry weather.  The project is expected to wrap up later in March with a few other areas for Chattahoochee Group to address prior to closing out the contract.

Veterans Memorial Relocation.  With the recent installation of the remaining granite panels, the electrician was able to squeeze-in a number of tasks until the rainy weather hampered progress.  There are a few more light fixtures to be installed once the decorative metal flag panels are installed, currently scheduled for the 3rd or 4th week of the month.  The balance of the sign program will be installed before the end of the month with temporary lettering being replaced and our dedication plaque put on the end cap of the water feature.  The city will be gearing up for a ribbon-cutting to coincide with Memorial Day activities, including an unveiling of the western monument.

2019 Bowl Improvements.  Rain has slowed things down at the construction site for the month of February somewhat, but the electrician was busy under roof with the rough-in of the conduit, panels, and junction boxes getting ready for the light fixtures and equipment going into the concession building.

In addition, the cast stone caps were installed. On the schedule for March includes the finishing of the synthetic turf, installation of the lighted handrails, installation of the stair tread markings, divider panels in the suites and finishing the permanent power connections.

Sugar Hill Greenway.  The GDOT, EPD, and county permits for the project have been issued.  One of the last acquisitions for right-of-way has reached an agreement and is expected to clear the way to move to the bid phase. Plan revisions to the sewer conflict segment between Whitehead Road and Level Creek Road are being completed currently, expecting to be finished this week.  The tentative bid date for the project is 3/19/2020 and will.  Phase 1B of the greenway (along Peachtree Industrial Boulevard, connecting the two county parks) is ready for construction contract award and should begin construction in April.  This project is funded through a combination of city and county SPLOST funds by way of an intergovernmental agreement.

Art/History Room Buildout – Broadstone Project.  The schematic design phase is concluding and the design development will get started this month.    The project is a part of the proposed 2020 budget.

Level Creek Pedestrian Improvements.  The scope of work for this project includes eight new ADA ramps, new striping and a widened sidewalk segment where the greenway breaks away from Level Creek Road and connects the main entrance to EE Robinson Park.  Bids came in too high and all have been rejected.  This scope will be combined with other unit-priced work and completed under another project.

Gold Mine Park.  This SPLOST-funded project includes the construction of passive park elements, ways to commemorate the gold mining industry in our area, a restroom building, and provide a trail-head for the greenway that runs through the park. The plans have been submitted for a land disturbance/site development permit.   A small temporary easement has been acquired to tie-in the grading plan along Level Creek Road. An early concept is shown below and shows the greenspace that is preserved as a part of the project.

Gary Pirkle Park Field Improvements.  Plans have been submitted for a land disturbance/site development permit.  The scope of this SPLOST-funded project includes a large area of synthetic turf, providing three (3) soccer fields (Full-Size; U10 and U8), new field lighting, site lighting, and new perimeter trails.  Environmental permitting has already been completed through the Corps of Engineers.
