The Public Safety Department (Sugar Hill Marshal’s Office) houses seven officers. The department’s mission is community policing; a partnership between the Public Safety Department and the community where problems that impact Sugar Hill’s safety and order are identified, reduced, and prevented.

The Marshal’s Office is dedicated to making sure it stays connected with its citizens and the community. The department encourages the citizens of Sugar Hill to reach out to them with any questions or concerns they may have. Department responsibilities include:

  • Managing city-wide emergency operations
  • Providing enhanced level of public safety in Sugar Hill’s downtown, parks, greenway, and neighborhoods
  • Conducting public outreach through education and programs
  • Overseeing the city’s private security patrol contractor, Paradigm
  • Serving as the city’s liaison with the Gwinnett County Police Department

    The department’s overall goal is to promote, educate and cultivate relationships with community partners through proactive and systematic problem-solving.

Reserve Officer Program

The Reserve Officer Program grants POST-certified police officers the ability to volunteer their time to work alongside Sugar Hill City Marshals. The purpose of the program is to help expand Marshal services and assist existing staff. Members of the Reserve Officer Program provide additional staffing at community events, assist with patrol operations, and perform other assignments as needed within the Sugar Hill Marshal’s Office. Reserve Officers meet the same criteria and requirements as the City Marshals.

The City of Sugar Hill has entered into a contract with Paradigm Security to provide extra patrols for the city. They patrol residential communities and businesses within the city limits and are often a deterrent to potential crimes enacted in our city. The city has been monitoring areas of concern where incidents have occurred and we share this data with Paradigm Security and Gwinnett County on a regular basis.

Sugar Hill residents pay taxes for Gwinnett County Police and Fire protection. Gwinnett County will remain the primary first responder agency in the city.

Paradigm Security officers are not first responders; they are not licensed, equipped, or authorized to respond in such a manner.

What is Paradigm Security?

Paradigm is responsible for assessing, patrolling, and providing an enhanced public safety presence within city limits. Paradigm Security officers are unarmed and will notify the Gwinnett County Police Department in the event of emergent and non-emergent incidents. In addition, Paradigm’s officers will report any activity to the Marshal’s Office.

Sugar Hill City Marshals are authorized to perform the duties of any POST certified officer in the State of Georgia. The Marshal’s Office is trained to respond, intervene, and will call Gwinnett County Police if necessary. Residents may contact the Marshal’s Office directly at 770-932-2532 for non-emergency matters such as parking, extra patrols, crime prevention, and youth programs.

The Marshal’s Office has the authority to issue traffic citations. However, traffic violations will primarily be enforced by Gwinnett County Police. Action can and may be taken by the Marshal’s Office if an egregious violation occurs.

In an emergency, dial 911 immediately. An emergency is any situation that requires immediate assistance from the police, fire department or ambulance.

The Marshal’s Office is available between the hours of 6 a.m. – 9 p.m. to assist residents.

Residents can call Paradigm to help assess a situation between the hours of 9 p.m. – 5 a.m. for non-emergent incidents.

Signs restricting parking from 2 a.m. – 4 a.m. will be posted throughout the E Center parking deck.

Be on the lookout for additional parking restrictions on West Broad St. Once the parking signs are installed, enforcement will begin.
